Obituary for Sophia P. Montville

Sophia P. Montville
Sophia Pauline Montville of Frey Village, Middletown peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2018, at the age of 104.
She was the wife of the late William Montville and mother to her daughter Monica who predeceased her. Sophia is survived by her son Michael and daughter Paulette of Harrisburg, her son Joseph; her sister and her husband Mary and Bill Gurka of Wilkes-Barre; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she worked in the local can factory and met her husband of 60 years. In the early ‘40s, they moved to Middletown, where they began and raised their family. Once her children were grown, Sophia worked at Fox’s Market for some years.
She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her favorite past times – shopping (she did a lot of that), bingo and her jewelry.
In the last 8 years, her children have kept her busy -- outdoor concerts; festivals; Mardi Gras at St. Anne’s Church; and picnics at state parks. And just about every year on her birthday, she was honored with “another year” birthday celebration – her 104th was extra special when the 104 candles on the cake were noticed, a grandfather and his 3 grandchildren sang her a beautiful birthday song – what a gift, what a blessing…..for she truly was a blessing to her family!!
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Seven Sorrows Church, Middletown with the Rev. Ted Keating as celebrant. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass, in the narthex of the church.
Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your favorite charity or church or organization.
