Our Story

Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. was opened in 1961 by Frank E. Matinchek.  Frank, who is still involved in the day to day operations of the funeral home, first attended Elizabethtown College where he began his journey to become a funeral director. Frank went on to Eckels College of Mortuary Science, in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Eckels in 1958 and became a licensed funeral director in 1959. Frank opened the doors to Matinchek Funeral Home in Middletown, PA in 1961.

Following in her father footsteps, Frank’s daughter, Paula, graduated from The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1978 and became a licensed funeral director in 1980. Shortly thereafter, Paula joined the family business, and the funeral home was re-named, Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.

Frank’s grandson, Zachary Matinchek, is continuing the tradition. Zachary, who also graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, became a licensed funeral director in 2012. Under his grandfather’s tutelage, he took over the reins of the business in 2014.

Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home is proud to serve Middletown and its surrounding communities with the same care and empathy we would expect for our own families. A tradition of caring, respectful, and honest funeral directing was started in 1961 and will continue for many years to come.
